What key information did you learn from this source?
The key information I learned from this source was not only some more causes to teenage stress, but also some coping mechanisms some teenagers use to get decrease it. Once again, it seems as though school is the number one cause for stress in teenagers; however, some of the teenagers spoke about other causes such as relationships, drunk drivers, friendships and drama, parents, future, extracurricular activities, and time management. To cope with stress, I found out that many just take a step back from it and take time to themselves, others use music/physical exercise to cope with it.
How was the information organized? Was this an effective choice? Explain.
This information was organized in a video format. More specifically, it was an interview asking multiple different high school students questions based on stress. The questions were inferred by the audiences, which was an effective choice because it allows the audience to focus strictly on the teenager’s answers, and also so that the viewers can hear what many different teenagers have to say about the cause of stress and how they cope with it at this age. The video was only about two-and-a-half minutes long, which kept the attention span of the audience constant throughout the entire video being that it was so short;therefore, allowing the audience to focus and retain more information because they are actively listening the entire time.
From whose perspective was the information presented? Was this an effective choice? Explain.
This video was taken from many different perspectives of many different teenagers. This happens to be a very effective choice because it allows the audience to hear different causes and unique coping methods for stress from teenagers themselves. Hearing the words, “I am stressed” from an actual teenager has a way larger impact on the audience rather than just reading statistics. The reasoning being is that it feels more personal and as though it is a larger issue when hearing it from first source. This really highlights how large stress due to school and other contributors is to teenagers these days, which is effective because the main topic is being advertised and acknowledged by the viewers.
What types of details were used to present the information? Be sure to include an evaluation of the effectiveness of the literary devices used in answering this question.
In the presentation of this video, multiple high school students were interviewed about causes and coping methods for stress in their life. During the video, they omitted the questions being asked. This was effective because it allowed the audience to stay strictly attentive to what the teenagers had to say about their experiences with stress. Additionally, the video’s length was only about two-and-a-half minutes long, and throughout was constantly switching between teenagers. This was effective because it helped to maintain the attention of the audience due to the fact it is short and to the point and didn’t dwell into one conversation for too long.
How was your reading of the text impacted by the type of source? How has this source enhanced your understanding of the overall theme/topic? Make personal connections to the source.
I was impacted by the video because it was an interview with many different perspectives being involved. However, with that being said, if this were a written out interview, it would not have the same impact because I wouldn’t have been able to hear the tone in voice these teenagers used when describing what stresses them out and how they cope with that. In some of the teens, you could hear the stress in their voice. In one boy in particular, you could hear the passion in his voice when he spoke of his coping method. He said, “Playing the drums is a huge escape. It gets a lot of anger out, and it's physically exercising it’s just really fun you get to hit things and make loud noises.” This just doesn’t have the same effect written as it does saying out loud. Because all of the people being interviewed were teenagers who have experienced stress, I was able to see from the source itself to help me understand more about how other teenagers are coping with this sort of stress. Something a lot of students in this video said was that music was a huge coping mechanism for them. This is something I relate to because music helps me too. I find that it is a huge escape and it allows you be in another place and to calm down a bit.
