What key information did you learn from this source?
The key information I learned from this source is the physical effects stress has on your body, along with a couple of mental effects too. To be specific, I learned that mentally, depression and anxiety take over your body. Common symptoms that follow are panic attacks, suicidal thoughts or actions, and a feeling of increased heart rate which leads to some physical effects. Beginning in the heart, an increase in heart rate cause your blood pressure to rise. This increase of blood flow and stress to your heart can cause in blood clotting in the arteries, which can even cause heart attack or stroke. An increase in heart rate also damages your lungs because your lungs are trying to keep up to maintain the equilibrium balance called homeostasis. Consequently, affecting your breathing, which may actually cause your airways to tighten, causing asthma attacks. Additionally, with stress comes stomach pains, such as cramps or nausea, and in some cases can cause you to form ulcers, which can be fatal if incorrectly treated. Finally, I learned that muscle and joint pains are common side effects of stress. Although some of these effects are less common in teenagers, many problems such as depression, anxiety, increased heart rate, stomach pains, etc are evident in younger adults. As you can see, stress is a serious problem and in some cases can even be fatal if left untreated.
How was the information organized? Was this an effective choice? Explain.
The information was organized through the use of a color coded diagram, which shows what parts in the body stress affects you, and how it affects you. Each main body part affected by stress is labelled with pictures and contains a couple of words explaining what happens in this specific organ in the body. This was an effective choice because the visual allows to audience to see for themselves what exactly stress affects, and how it affects that specific part in the body. Not to mention it is visually pleasing with the use of color coding and organization. This shows the viewer just how much stress really does affect a person in a more physical aspect.
From whose perspective was the information presented? Was this an effective choice? Explain.
This diagram was posted by MedIndia, which is a website promoting healthy lifestyles. Being that this is the case, and that MedIndia is so pro healthy living, this is effective because it is such a reliable source towards this type of subject matter. However, if the viewer takes it in the perspective of a human being struggling with stress, it can be even more effective in the way that it shows how stress is slowly killing them physically and mentally. This brings the awareness of the effects of stress out substantially, which would have been what MedIndia was aiming for by creating such a powerful diagram.
What types of details were used to present the information? Be sure to include an evaluation of the effectiveness of the literary devices used in answering this question.
To present the information, the creator of this diagram made it visually pleasing to the viewers. They did this by neatly organizing the placement of each picture in it’s presentation, which makes the information very easy to read and to comprehend. This is very effective as it allows the audience to fully understand what the diagram is telling them. The diagram is also color coded, which well organizes and emphasizes the organs affected by stress. This is effective in the way that it highlights the important information. Additionally, the writing on the diagram is in large font and is well spread out. This draws the attention of potential viewers with the title, and then makes it easier to read the information provided. It also emphasizes the specific responses your body has to stress; therefore, emphasizing the main topic of the diagram.
How was your reading of the text impacted by the type of source? How has this source enhanced your understanding of the overall theme/topic? Make personal connections to the source.
Had this information been displayed in any other form of presentation, I believe it it wouldn’t be nearly as effective in spreading awareness of the main topic as it is in this form. The diagram was perfect; it was very effective because of its’ neatness. It allowed me to have a strong understanding of the topic. Through the use of color coding and the pictures of the organs along with the words for explanation, this diagram enhanced my understanding of the topic greatly. I now know even more than previously of the physical effects and where they occur in your body. However, not all of it was new information to me. Some I have already experienced myself. For example, stress has increased my anxiety, heart rate (at times), and the frequency of any stomach pains. I have personally felt the effects of stress, and I can honestly say it has affected my life dramatically. This diagram perfectly displays and educates the viewers of the effects of stress which in my opinion is very important.
